Wherever I go, creative chaos ensues. Case in point, my studio. (When I left for Bruges, it was tidy and organized, really it was!)
As soon as I catch my breath there's another show, more gallery fulfillments, and 'what the heck' paintings I suddenly get a wild hair to paint before I realize I should be packing a bag for my next destination.
Not complaining... I am so grateful!
And that next destination is the annual Family on Folly! Tomorrow!
En route to the beach, I'm stopping off in Charleston with a new body of work for LePrince Fine Art and I am beach bound from there. Yah! Look out Folly Beach, SC!
The whole “fam-damily” is descending: 12 adults and 6 kids (3 babies under 16 months) T'was no small task to get us all in one place at one time. Look for more beach inspired artwork or maybe some crazy abstract artwork after a week with this bunch! ( joking... kind of….)

The flower market in Bruges provided endless inspiration in spite of the drizzling dreary day. My approach was to maintain loosely abstract markings yet hinting at the nature of the actual flower.
In the grandeur of my bedroom suite was a stunning chandelier. Day 2 I woke up at 4am and was utterly mesmerized by glints of light streaming through the curtains and hitting the chandelier & the ceiling. With this, I never got back to sleep and instead photographed different stages & journaled about ideas.
Given the drama of light and dark, this group of chandeliers create more of a moody, passionate sensory that I intend to explore.
City Art Gallery
(Greenville, NC)
City Art Gallery in Greenville, North Carolina, is kicking off the summer with their annual “Summer Salon” group show.
Opening reception is June 18th, 6-8pm.
They are also having a show July 12th & 13th at the Coral Bay Beach Club, Atlantic City, NC. Reference materials for my new pieces are all from photos taken in the Calabria region of Southern Italy with views of Sicily across the Strait of Messina.
What the Heck!

WHITE ASPARAGUS! Another culinary foodie tidbit I learned in Bruges as it was literally on a special menu in every restaurant. Prepared in a variety of ways, this happened to be THE season for white asparagus and lucky us! Available only for a brief time in the spring, they were abundant in the farmers’ markets in Belgium and considered a delicacy. I further learned that they are the same plant as green asparagus, but grow underground, allowing no sunlight therefore no production of chlorophyll.
Maybe I'm late to the asparagus party, but trivia that I did not know & the flavor and texture were very different from fresh green asparagus.
I’ve seen this in jars, perhaps pickled, but never fresh.
